I need ammunition to convince my husband! Are the 2019 Plastic Surgery statistics out yet?
2019 official results are not yet published but a survey sent to over 700 board-certified plastic surgeons was just released, and the demand for cosmetics procedures has never been higher. This is true for surgical procedures and especially in the demand for preventative, minimally invasive procedures.
The survey shows facial plastic surgery procedures increasing 6% in 2019. The most common procedures were rhinoplasty, facelifts and blepharoplasty (for drooping eyelids). Nonsurgical procedures increased 13% from 2018., with the most common being neurotoxins (Botox, etc.), fillers and skin treatments (lasers, facials, etc.). Skin treatments increased 39%, the largest growth of any non-surgical or surgical procedure category.
In addition to the number of procedures performed, this survey also included surgeon opinions. They agree social media is directly affecting many new patients to have procedures done. 72% of the surveys reported surgeons having patients who specifically mentioned desires to “look better for selfies.” A large percentage also stated that they were influenced by how others looked in social media, ranging from their friends to celebrities. Speaking of celebrities, 84% of those surveyed agreed celebrities have a “moderate-to-great” influence on facial plastic surgery trends, which is more than ever. For women, Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian West are most often mentioned, while men most refer to Brad Pitt and Bradley Cooper.
In the discussion with your spouse, it is key that you tell him that you are doing this for yourself, and explain why it is right for you. He is welcome to join us in your consultation, and I can also discuss with him the importance of choosing a surgeon Board certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
