Male Massive Weight Loss

“One of the revolutions in body contouring, either after regular weight loss or massive weight loss, is to be able to circumferentially treat the abdomen, buttocks and trunk in a single operation. Sometimes it’s even combined with a thigh lift as well,” says Dr. Paul Vanek, a board-certified general and plastic surgeon and specialist in plastic surgery after weight loss for Cleveland area residents. “Depending upon the patient, the procedure can be performed in one operative session and have very acceptable scars.”

Who is the Best Candidate for a Body Lift?

A body lift is similar to a tummy tuck, but specifically designed for patients who have lost a significant amount of body weight and wish to improve their body’s contour. This is accomplished through an incision that allows the surgeon to re-suspend deep tissue so the skin can be re-draped and the excess removed for a tighter body contour above and below the waist.

“Patients who have achieved weight loss through exercise and diet, or through surgical intervention (like gastric bypass) and exercise can really enjoy the fruits of their efforts and have a very flat abdomen and a sculpted and rounded buttock region,” explains Dr. Vanek, one of “America’s Top Physicians” according to the Consumer’s Research Council of America.

Dr. Vanek is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and surrounds himself with equally talented medical professionals. “I have a team that has done these procedures with me many times. My experienced surgical support team allows me to do the procedure efficiently with minimal blood loss,” says Dr. Vanek. “We have an excellent track record of patient satisfaction.”

Dr. Vanek Knows What is Best for You

or patients who have particularly high body mass index (BMI), Dr. Vanek offers a procedure called a panniculectomy, which is, essentially, a modified tummy tuck that can be performed safely despite the complications associated with high BMI.

While the body lift and panniculectomy are effective for the treatment of unwanted skin on the torso, Dr. Vanek also performs lifts on the limbs to target excess skin on the arms and thighs. In an arm lift or brachioplasty, an incision is made in an innocuous location on the underside of the arm. The length of incision is determined by your anatomy and goals. The structural tissue and muscles are sutured into a tighter position and the skin is re-draped tightly, with the excess skin excised.

In a thigh lift, the same basic mission is accomplished: underlying structures are sutured tighter, and the skin is re-draped for a smoother contour and the excess skin is removed. The incision for a thigh lift typically runs from the groin to the back of the thigh. To effectively treat the outer thigh, the incision may cross the top of the thigh to the back. Incisions are placed strategically for effective concealment by most swimsuits.

Will You Need Additional Treatment?

Lift procedures can be combined with additional innovative procedures to maximize the results of your body contouring, like VASER® Lipo liposuction. As a medical researcher who has participated in NIH and FDA studies, Dr. Vanek is on the forefront of medical technology and up-to-date on the latest techniques. Volume reconstruction with fat transfer may play a role in a great outcome for you – we’ll discuss this in our consultation.

“My bio-physics background and the research I have done uniquely qualify me to properly discern what technologies are going to be best for my patients,” explains Dr. Vanek, who encourages all prospective patients to schedule a consultation. “A great outcome begins with the consultation.”

During the consultation, Dr. Vanek will educate you on the risks and benefits of any procedure and empower you to make an informed, medically sound decision. Your individual anatomy and your aesthetic goals will create a series of surgical options for Dr. Vanek to review with you.

“I have the experience in body contouring to accomplish your goals; but we may need to stage your procedures appropriately to get you there safely.” Dr. Vanek says. “Give us a call. I’d love to talk with you and help you celebrate your beauty.”
